Pocket Pets

At Leader Heights Animal Hospital we aim to offer a full range of services, not only to cats and dogs but also to the tinnier of our furry companions.

Pocket Pets

We have it all from diagnostic imaging to in-depth examination and flavoured oral medications specifically mixed to make treating your little guys easier. We work with small mammals such as hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, rabits, mice/rats, chinchillas, and more.

Rabbits

Along with our regular services, we also offer surgical procedures for rabbits including spaying, neutering, and teeth trimming. Our technicians are also trained to perform routine nail trims any day of the week. We are happy to address any concerns you may have with husbandry, nutrition, or grooming.

Ferrets

Ferrets are one of the few pocket pets that receive a full set of vaccines similar to our cats and dogs. However, ferrets have a higher rate of vaccination reaction. this is why they only receive one vaccination at a time. We recommend a distemper vaccine be given at 8 and 12 weeks of age, and the rabies vaccine is given no sooner than 16 weeks of age. This way we can decrease the likelihood of a vaccine reaction occurring and, should a reaction occur, guarantee that we know the cause of the reaction.

In addition to our annual wellness exams and preventative care, we also provide extensive medical care for ferrets who become sick or injured.

Small Mammals

Along with rabbits and ferrets, we continue to provide medical treatment and diagnostic testing to other small mammals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, and more. We have in-house diagnostic imaging as well as an external laboratory for any specialized testing that may be needed. If your pocket pet is injured or does not appear to be doing well, please call us immediately at (717)-741-4618 so that we may quickly and effectively help your small friend feel better soon!

Referrals

Should we determine that your pet requires more extensive or specialized care we may refer you to a specialty facility. Our goal is to ensure that your pet receives the best possible care, no matter who provides it.
